Master Plan for Central Douglas

This master plan proposal was part of my major assignment for the Urban Design module in the M.Plan programme. It represented a body of work which included a full site analysis and site strategy study, as well as the production of a final site master plan. Douglas is a historically rural village, but is now central to one of Cork City's largest suburban districts. The study site was adjacent to the historic village, with current uses including a shopping centre, cinema, and drive through restaurant, all heavily dominated by traffic and surface parking

The proposed master plan aims to develop a high scale district centre with a clear sense of place, which connects with and respects the traditional village core. It proposes a development which manages the traffic demands on the area while still creating a town centre focused on the pedestrian. A unique element to the proposal is that the urban gardens, which flows from the public park and would provide commuters from the adjacent highway with a dynamic new perspective of Douglas.

Yale/Newman Secondary Plan

The Yale/Newman Secondary Plan sets out the land use framework for a key development site in the City of Thompson, Manitoba. The Secondary Plan is a crucial planning tool to come out of a major planning and economic strategy developed by planningAlliance to help the City face changing circumstances in the regional economy.

The Plan provides for the development of a vibrant new community including a mixture of commercial, community and recreational uses, in addition to residential uses at a variety of densities. The planning concept seeks to take advantage of the site's advantagous river valley location to accentuate the sense of the place, and the movement concept allows the site act as a key district in the overall community.

As project planner, I assisted in the development of the land use concept, development policies, and the detailed site planning aspects.

Deer Meadows Area Structure Plan

The Deer Meadows Area Structure Plan (ASP) sets out the framework for the future development of 90 hectares of land in the City of Cold Lake, Alberta. Due it's proximity to Alberta's major oil sands operations, Cold Lake is experiencing major growth pressures and a houseing shortage. This ASP is critical in providing sufficient residential development for this fast growing community

The Deer Meadows ASP provides a vision for a complete new residential community with a mixture of detached, semi-detached, town housing and apartments. The urban design framework takes account of the site's natural contours and key environmental features such as forestry and wetlands, using them for the benifit of public open space and sustainable storm water managment.
